Big things are in store for Kent State’s outstanding track & field and soccer programs through the Building Champions initiative. The plan to nestle the soccer field into a brand new outdoor track complex on the south side of the Field House will provide numerous benefits to both squads.
For the track & field teams, the outdoor facility will give the Golden Flashes a comprehensive footprint. Combined with the indoor facility in the Field House and the adjacent new locker room complex, Kent State will have a year-round venue to call home. For soccer, the newly relocated Zoeller Field will pay huge dividends by creating a truly first class facility. For the first time, the team will enjoy a full regulation-sized field that will become one of the larger surfaces in the Mid-American Conference.
Fans of both programs will enjoy the more than 1,000 grandstand seats at the complex, while the student-athletes will benefit from the expanded state-of-the-art athletic training and strength and conditioning areas in the Field House.
With your support, the new track and soccer complex will create a top-notch facility on the eastern end of Kent State’s campus, one that will stand among the best in the MAC and the region.
The facility will allow both programs to recruit top tier student-athletes to Kent State. Not only will it be the premier venue in the MAC, it will also rank among the finest in the region for both track & field and soccer.
The proximity to the new locker rooms will be a tremendous asset for student-athletes and coaches in both programs. They will have a place to call “home” for the first time.
For the track & field squad, the addition of an outdoor venue will raise the profile of the program, while allowing for better training, additional warm-up space and the ability to host events year-round.
Soccer will benefit immensely from having a regulation-sized field in both their training efforts and the program’s ability to attract high-profile opponents.
The addition of an outdoor track & field complex would not only solidify Kent State as the top facility in the Mid-American Conference, but it would also elevate us to a nationally recognized venue. To have an indoor and outdoor facility in such close proximity to one another is rare – and something we look forward to showcasing to our past, present and future student-athletes.
